Long ago, portfolios were made of paper. To protect the priceless work within, they were cursed to take the humble, coffee-stained forms of envelopes, folders and paper clips. Portfolios held it all together, yet they could never take any credit, lest they end up in a portfolio of their own!
Web portfolios are a different breed. They don’t need to worry about coffee stains. These days, savvy and forward-thinking portfolios consider themselves to be works of art. Deep down, they know that they are the mere descendants of the simple office envelope.
In my portfolio, I have tried to capture the spirit of the envelope. It seems unnatural to present decent work without the presence of a quiet, humble protector. Easy to use, easy to understand, timelessly boring. While the trendiest websites change with the seasons, mine will look the same in one hundred years.
